Ellsworth High School's Athletic Director Josh Frost announced that the School has hired a new Boy's Varsity Basketball Coach and Golf Coach. Both hires are not strangers to Hancock County.

Matt Mattson will take the reins as the new Boy's Varsity Basketball Coach.

Matt comes to Ellsworth High School with over 22 years of extensive basketball experience, a winning pedigree boasting four state championships, and a deep passion for the game and its players. Matt coached the varsity boys basketball team at George Stevens Academy from 1998-2003, leading the team to two Regional Finals appearances and one State Championship in 2003. He was the assistant varsity coach and JV coach at GSA from 2010 - 2020, helping coach the team to three State Championships in 2016, 2017, and 2018. Matt has a proven track record of success, exceptional player development skills and a commitment to fostering team unity and sportsmanship.

Andy Beardsley is returning to Ellsworth High School as the Golf Coach!

Andy returns to Ellsworth High School after teaching at St. Anne’s-Belfield School in Charlottesville, Virginia for the last 9 years. Prior to that Andy taught English and coached cross country, indoor and outdoor track at EHS for 25 plus years. Andy co-coached the Golf team this past Spring for the St. Anne’s-Belfield Saints with his wife Andrea (also a former EHS teacher). Andy is a lifelong golfer and is looking forward to returning to teach 8th grade at Ellsworth Elementary-Middle School in the fall along with getting back into coaching at Ellsworth High School.
