Ellsworth Girls Win Inaugural Down East Showdown

The Ellsworth Girl's Basketball Summer Team won the inaugural Down East Showdown on Sunday, July 17th, beating MDI 68-26 in the finals.

Games took place at the gyms in the Ellsworth High School and Middle School.

The Ellsworth Team was coached by Andy Pooler and Amy Boles. Team members were

#1 Ellsworth defeated #4 Sumner while #2 MDI defeated #3 Washington Academy to advance to the finals. Grace Jaffray was named Player of the Game with a game high 25 points.

Teams competing in the Varsity Tourney included Calais, Ellsworth, Foxcroft Academy, GSA, Jonesport-Beals, MDI, Shead, Sumner and Washington Academy.

In the JV Tournament Bangor won

Bangor advanced to the finals by defeating #4 Washington Academy. In the other semifinals #2 Brewer took on #3 Sumner.

Ayzlynn Gifford of Bangor was named Player of the Game finishing with a game high 11 points.

Teams competing included Bangor, Brewer, Jonesport-Beals, Shead, Sumner and Wasahington Academy.

This coming weekend the Boys will be playing in Bucksport.
