Ellsworth Girls Stun GSA 38-33
The Ellsworth Girl's Basketball Team used a patient, ball control offense to stun the GSA Eagles 38-33 in Blue Hill on Monday, January 9th dropping the GSA Eagles from the ranks of the unbeaten.
Ellsworth jumped out to a 14-8 lead at the end of the 1st Quarter and never trailed after the opening minutes. Sammy Mason had 8 points, Hannah Sargent 4 points and Katelynn Bagley 2 points for Ellsworth. For GSA Morgan Dauk and Mazie Smallidge each had 2 points.
In the 2nd Quarter, each team scored 9 points and Ellsworth led 23-17 at the end of the 1st Half. For GSA Dauk had 6 points, going 4-4 from the free throw line and Dawn Hutchinson had a 3-pointer. For Ellsworth, Mason had 5 points including a 3-pointer, Sargent had a 3-pointer and Trinity Montigny was 1-2 from the free throw line.
In the 3rd Quarter Ellsworth outscored GSA 7-2, with GSA not scoring until there was 2:40 remaining in the Quarter. Montigny had 5 points for Ellsworth including a 3-pointer, and Mason had 2 points. Dauk had GSA's lone points.
In the 4th Quarter GSA tried to rally, but Ellsworth's lead was too big and although GSA outscored Ellsworth 14-8 it was Ellsworth that came away with the victory. In the 4th Quarter Emma Crosby had 8 points for GSA with 2 3-pointers, Dauk had 4 points and Julianna Allen had 2 points. For Ellsworth, Montigny had 5 points, going 3-4 from the free throw line. Sargent was 2-2 from the free throw line and Bagley 1-2 as Ellwsorth went 7-10 from the free throw line in the 4th Quarter.
Ellsworth was led by Sammy Mason with 15 points, while Trinity Montigny had 11 points and Hannah Sargent had 9 points. Ellsworth was 8-12 from the free throw line and only committed 7 fouls all night.
GSA was led by Morgan Dauk with a game hight 16 points while Emma Crosby had 8 points. GSA was 4-6 from the free throw line.
Ellsworth is now 3-6 and will play at Orono on Thursday, January 12 at 7 PM.
GSA is now 9-1 and plays host to Deer-Isle Stonington on Thursday, January 12th at 7 PM.
