Ellsworth Falls to Old Town 8-4

The Ellsworth Eagles fell to Old Town 8-4, Thursday, May 8th at a game played at Ellsworth High School.

Old Town scored in the top of the 1st inning as Eric Hoogterp singled with two out, and then scored on a single by Garvey Melmed.

Ellsworth answered in the bottom of the 1st inning. Conor Maguire reached 1st based on a catcher's interference call. He stole second, and then scored on a double by Sid St. Peter.

Old Town scored 6 runs in the top of the 2nd inning. Adam Richardson singled, and then Braden Upshaw was hit by a pitch. Zac Miller struck out for the first out, but then the 9th hitter, TJ Crawford stroked a triple, scoring Richardson and Upshaw. Tyler Byther reached on catcher's interference, and then Tyler Young walked. Crawford scored on a passed ball and everyone moved up a base. Byther and Young scored on Hoogterp's double, and Hoogterp would scored on Melmed's triple.

Ellsworth got 1 run back in the bottom of the 3rd inning. Maguire walked, stole 2nd base and then scored on Brandon Braley's double. The score after 3 innings was Old Town 7 Ellsworth 2.

Old Town added another run in the top of the 4th inning. Hoogterp singled for this 3rd hit, and then stole 2nd and 3rd. He scored when DJ Monteith stole 2nd base.

Ellsworth scored in the bottom of the 5th inning. Steven Mahon singled and advanced to 2nd on a walk to Brandon Braley. Mahon scored on a single by Sid St. Peter.

Ellsworth scored their final run in the bottom of the 7th inning. Braley doubled with 2 out, and Sid St. Peter was intentionally walked. Braley scored on a single by Cooper Henderson.

Eric Hoogterp pitched a complete game for the win. He allowed 4 runs, 2 of which were earned. He gave up 9 hits, walked4 and struck out 6.

Conor Maguire pitched 6 innings and picked up the loss, giving up 8 runs, 7 of which were earned. He struck out 8, walked 3, and allowed 8 hits. Nick Bagley pitched 1 inning of releif, giving up 1 hit,striking out 2.

Ellsworth is now 2-3 on the season. They play Friday, May 10th at Foxcroft Academy at 4:30 and then play John Bapst in Bangor on Tuesday May 13th at 3:30.
