Ellsworth Falls to Brewer 4-2 in Class B North Regional Finals [PHOTOS]
The Ellsworth Eagles fell to Brewer 4-2 in the Class B North Regional Finals held at Mansfield Stadium in Bangor, Wednesday night, June 13th.
The game started off well for Ellsworth, as Conner Wagstaff struck out the first 7 batters he faced, 5 by swinging and Ellsworth scored in the bottom of the 1st to take a 1-0 lead. In the 1st inning Bradly Smith drew a lead-off walk and then went to 3rd on 2 passed balls. Jared Hamilton singled him home for the early lead.
In the top of the 3rd inning, Brewer scored 2 runs to take a 2-1 lead. Kaleb Bryant drew a walk and Hunter Russell singled. A passed ball put runners at 2nd and 3rd and then Kobe Rogerson hit a sacrifice fly to right field. Josiah Cyr, the pitcher, singled, helping his own cause, driving in Russell.
Cyr, didn't allow another hit until the 6th inning. Meanwhile Brewer scored 2 runs in the top of the 6th inning. Rogerson single and then after Cyr lined out to 2nd baseman Devin Grindle, Andrew Kiley hit a triple to left field that went to the warning track. The relay throw barely missed Kiley as he slid safely, making the score 3-1. Levi Williamson then hit a sacrifice fly to left, that Sam Horne caught in foul territory.
Ellsworth had a chance in the bottom of the 6th inning, Smith walked, and went to second on a wild pitch. Jack Lee singled, moving Smith to 3rd and then Lee stole 2nd, giving the Eagles, runners at 2nd and 3rd. Jared Hamilton hit a hard grounder to 2nd, and the Brewer 2nd baseman couldn't come up with it, scoring Smith. Sam Horne was hit by a pitch for the 2nd time in the game loading the bases with no one out. But, Jackson Curtis hit a pop up to first with the infield fly rule called, and then Matt Burnett grounded into a double play.
Ellsworth finished with 2 runs on 2 hits, and no errors. Brewer had 4 runs on 5 hits and 1 error.
Brewer will play in the State Finals on Saturday, June 16th at 11AM at Mansfield Stadium.
