Ellsworth Boys Move to Finals Beat Washington Academy 54-34 [PHOTOS]
The #2 seeded Ellsworth Boys Basketball Team beat the #3 seeded Washington Academy Raiders 54-34 on Wednesday, February 19th in the Class B North semifinals and will play in the finals on Saturday afternoon, February 22nd at 3:45 p.m.
Ellsworth jumped out to a 17-7 lead at the end of the 1st Quarter. Mr. Basketball semifinalist Jackson Curtis had 10 points with 2 3-'s. Hunter Curtis had 4 points and Connor Crawford had a 3-pointer. For the Raiders Jax Lin had 3 points and Evan Ackley and Cecil Gray each had 2 points.
In the 2nd Quarter Ellsworth increased their lead, to 36-14, outscoring Washington Academy 19-7. Hunter Curtis had 6 points, J'Von James had 5 points including a 3-pointer from the right side as time expired. Connor Crawford and Austin Harris each had a 3-pointer and Darby Barry added 2 points. For the Raiders Lin, Ackley, and Gray each had 2 points while Huang was 1-2 from the free throw line
In the 3rd Quarter the Raiders outscored Ellsworth 13-8 to cut the lead to 44-27. Joshua Ketchen had a 3-pointer. Gray and Wood had 3 points and Ackley and Huang each had 2 points for the Raiders. For Ellsworth Hunter Curtis had 5 points, and Darby Barry had 2 points.
In the 4th Quarter Ellsworth was 8-11 from the free throw line. Barry had 7 points, going 5-6 from the line. Hunter Curtis was 2-2 from the free throw line and Nick Kane was 1-2 from the free throw line. For Washington Academy Joshua Ketchn had a 3-pointer and Andon Woon and Daniel Huang each had 2 points.
Ellsworth placed 3 players in double figures, with Hunter Curtis leading the way with a game high 17 points. Darby Barry had 11 points and Jackson Curtis 10 points. The Eagles were 18-24 from the free throw line.
Washington Academy was led by Joshua Ketchen and Evan Ackley with 6 points each. The Raiders were 6-10 from the free throw line.
Ellsworth will play the winner of the #1 Caribou- #10 Old Town semifinal Saturday afternoon, February 22nd in the Northern Maine Regional Final. That game will be broadcast on AM 1370, on WDEA Internet Radio, on our free downloadable APP and on any Alexa enabled device
