Eagles Down Lynx 45-34

The Ellsworth Girl's Basketball Team defeated the Mattanawcook Academy Lynx on Wednesday, January 18th at Katsiaficas Gymnasium in Ellsworth.

The Eagles jumped out to a 11-7 lead at the end of the 1st Quarter. Callie Hammer had 5 points with a 3-pointer for Ellsworth, Sammy Mason had 4 points and Trinity Montigny had 2 points. For Mattanawcook Academy Natalie Tilton had 3 points, while Kim Voisine and Courtney Gordon chipped in with 2 points a piece.

Mattanawcook Academy outscored Ellsworth 10-7 in the 1nd Quarter to cut Ellsworth's lead to 1 point 18-17 at the end of the 1st Half. For the Lynx, Tilton had 4 points , Gordon had a 3-pointer and Voisine had 2 points while Kiana Hafford was 1-2 from the free throw line. For Ellsworth, Montigny had 5 points with a 3-pointer while Kacie Omlor had 2 points.

Ellsworth outscored Mattanawcook Academy 16-7 in the 3rd Quarter to take a 34-24 lead. Kaitlynn Bagley had 6 points for Ellsworth, Callie Hammer had 4 points and Montigny, Omlor and Mason had 2 points a piece for Ellsworth. For Mattanawcook Academy, Tilton had 4 points, Tolman had 2 points and Gordon was 1-2 from the free throw line.

In the 4th Quarter, Montigny had 5 points with another 3-pointer, Omlor had 4 points and Bagley had 2 points for the Eagles. For the Lynx, Emily Tolman was 4-5 from the free throw line and Gordon, Katie Tolman, and Tilton had 2 points a piece.

Ellsworth was led by Trinity Montigny with a game high 14 points while Callie Hammer had 9 points. The Eagles never took a free throw during the game.

Mattanawcook Academy was led by Natalie Tilton with 13 points while Courtney Gordon had 8 points. The Lynx were 7-11 from the free throw line.

Ellsworth is now 5-7 and will play in East Machias against the Washington Academy Black Raiders on Monday, January 23rd at 7 PM in a game that will be broadcast on AM 1370 WDEA and WDEA Internet Radio with the pregame starting at 6:45 PM.

Mattanawcook Academy is 2-10 and plays host to Caribou on Saturday, January 21st at 1:30 PM.
