The big construction equipment is now in place for the next phase of the demolition project bringing down the old Waldo-Hancock Suspension bridge.

A huge barge left the dock of Cianbro in Brewer yesterday morning and after its cruise down the Penobscot River, the barge was positioned under the bridge by a tug boat.

Maine Department of Transportation spokesman Ted Talbot says the cranes will be used to lower sections of the old bridge deck down to the barges. By mid-April the only thing you should see standing are the bridge towers.

A piece of the bridge has been given to the town of Bucksport to be placed on their walking trail and the flag poles that were atop the bridge towers have been given to Prospect and Verona.
