Ellsworth Superintendent of Schools Dan Higgins sent out notification to parents, staff and students of Ellsworth High School regarding a positive COVID case on Tuesday, February 2nd.

"The Ellsworth School Department confirmed, late yesterday afternoon, that an individual associated with  Ellsworth High School tested positive for Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19). After receiving the  report of a positive test result, designated school staff initiated our response, which included  communication with the Maine CDC and following the Maine CDC Standard Operating Procedure for  investigation of COVID-19 in PK-12 Schools.

The individual who tested positive was last present at Ellsworth High School Wednesday January 27th and  will remain in isolation and quarantine consistent with CDC guidelines. Based on our contact tracing  efforts, as of 9:00 p.m. last night, we identified five staff members and twenty-eight students as close  contacts. Students and staff members who were identified as close contacts and required to quarantine  were contacted directly by school personnel last evening. Close contacts have been directed to quarantine  for 10 days from the last exposure to the individual who tested positive. Please be reminded that a negative COVID-19 test result does not eliminate the quarantine requirement. "
