There's good news and bad news coming from Acadia National Park on Friday, April 7th. The bad news is that the Carriage Roads are temporarily closed to all users until the roads dry out and become firm enough to prevent damage to their gravel surface.

Walking, bicycling and riding horses on the Carriage Roads under the soft conditions can cause ruts and potholes that will channel water and exacerbate erosion.

The good new is that the Park Loop Road will open on April 15th

Superintendent Kevin Schneider said "As in the past years, we're asking Park visitors to help protect the historic Carriage Road system and prevent costly repairs to the road surfaces by cooperating with the temporary closures."
