Bucksport High School Class of 2023 Honors Parts
Bucksport High School released their Class of 2023 Honor Parts. Congratulations to these 4, and the entire Class of 2023! We can't wait to see what you accomplish in your future, wherever it takes you!
Valedictorian, Alexandra Pickering, daughter of Chris and Samantha Pickering, is from Orland. Alexandria is a member of our softball team and soccer team that won the state championship this past fall. She is a member of the National Honor Society, student council, and is vice-president of the senior class. She did an internship with Green Ellsworth which was the inspiration for her to create The Green Team, which is a school-based committee that focuses on environmental issues and how students can help both today and in the future. Alexandria plans to attend Florida Gulf Coast University where she will be majoring in Biology/Environmental Science.
Salutatorian, Mya Moran, the daughter of Richard and Andrea Moran, is from Verona Island. Mya is a member of the National Honor Society, math team, science club and is the treasurer for the senior class. Mya is a member of the wrestling team and won an individual state championship this past season. Mya is also this year’s recipient of the Saunders Excellence Award for her excellence in wrestling, scholastic achievement, citizenship and community service. Mya is extremely proud of how she manages her academics, her job and her home life with her family. Mya plans on attending Husson University where she will major in Nursing.
First Honors Essayist, Hannah Varnum, the daughter of David and Kristin Varnum, is from Verona Island. Hannah is a member of the National Honor Society and has taken on a strong leadership role on the robotics team. Through her and the rest of the team’s efforts, the robotics team finished in 3 rd place at the 2023 World Championships. Hannah balances her success within the classroom with employment at Hannaford’s where she has been recognized for her work ethic and leadership. Hannah plans on attending Husson University where she will be majoring in Business Administration.
Second Honors Essayist, Lanie Stubbs, the daughter of Jason and Lori Stubbs, is from Bucksport. Lanie is the secretary for both the National Honor Society and the senior class, a member of The Green Team, science club and the student council. Lanie was a captain on the state championship soccer team, is a shift leader at the Dairy Port, and also volunteers at the animal shelter. Lanie plans on attending the University of Maine of Augusta, Bangor Campus, where she will be majoring in Dental Hygiene
