The Boston Red Sox beat the Angles 5-2 on Friday night, July 3rd, as rookie Jake Bennett pitched 7.2 innings and reliever Aroldis Chapman set the all-time record for strikeouts by a reliever.

Chapman struck out 1 batter in the 0th, earning his 17th save of the season. The  1,364th strikeout broke the record held by Hoyt Wilhelm, the Hall of Famer whose 21-year career ended back in 1972,

Jake Bennett pitched 7.2 innings allowing 5 hits and 2 runs,, striking out 6. He didn't walk a batter and evened his record at 3-3. Bennett retired 22 of the 1st  24 batters he faced before Jose Siri homered in the 8th for the Angels

Caleb Durban hit his 8th homer of the season, a solo shot in the 5th inning.

Romy Gonzalez was 3-4 with a triple and drove in 2 runs.

Willson Contreras, playing while he appeals his 7-game suspension was 2-4 with a double.

Wilyer Abreu was 1-4 with a double. Ceddanne Rafaela was 2-5
