Red Sox Beat A’s 5-4 in 10 Innings for 11th Walk-Off of Season [VIDEO]

The Boston Red Sox beat the A's 5-4, in 10 innings on Wednesday, September 17th for their 11th walk-off win of the season to keep their playoff hopes alive.

Nick Sogard hit a pinch-hit grounder for the game-winner, scoring Nate Eaton.

Lucas Giolito went 4.1 innings allowing 5 hits and 4 runs. He left with the bases loaded in the 5th inning, and Justin Wilson allowed 3 runs, all charged to Giolito. Giolito has now pitched 140 innings, which allows the 2026 option to be a mutual one, which gives him the right to go into free agency after the 2025 season.

Chris Murphy picked up the win, and is 3-0, retiring the only batter he faced in the 10th inning.

Rob Resfnyder hit a solo home run, his 9th of the season, going 1-5

Trevor Story was 2-4 with a RBI single in the 6th inning to tie the game at 4-4. He also stole his 31st consecutive base before being caught stealing int eh 8th inning. Since 1961 he's just the 2nd player to have been successful in stealing their 1st 31 bases. The only other player to do so was Vince Coleman who stole 44 consecutive bases in 1989.

Jarren Duran was 3-4, reaching base safely 4 times leading off.

Masataka Yoshida was 2-4 with 2 runs batted in and stole a base.

Boston still has a problem driving in runners in scoring position, as they were just 3-17, and left 13 runners on base.

Boston is now 83-69 with 10 games left to play. They are 6 games behind the Toronto Blue Jays in the AL East, in 3rd place. They are 2 games behind the Yankees for the 1st Wild Card Spot, tied with the Seattle Mariners for the 2nd Wild Card spot. Boston and Seattle are 2.5 games ahead of the Cleveland Guardians for the final Wild Card spot.

Boston and the A's will play the final game of their 3-game series on Thursday afternoon. The pregame starts at 12:35 with the 1st pitch at 1:35 on AM 1370 WDEA.
