The Boston Red Sox's bullpen imploded on Sunday afternoon, allowing 3 runs in the 9th inning, on back-to-back homers, as they fell to the Miami Marlins 5-3 at Fenway Park.

With Aroldis Chapman unavailable after pitching in back-to-back games, manager Alex Cora summoned Greg Weissert to pitch the 9th inning, with Boston leading 3-2. He allowed a home run to  Dane Myers to tie the game, and then Steven Matz allowed a 2-run homer to Jakob Marsee to put Miami on top 5-3.

The Red Sox wasted a great pitching performance by Garrett Crochet who went 7.0 innings, allowing 3 hits and 1 run. He struck out 8 and walked 1. He leads the majors in strikeouts with 196 and innings pitched with 159.1.

Wilyer Abreu was 2-3 with a 2-run home run in the 4th inning. It was his 22nd of the season.

Jarren Duran was 1-3 with a double.

Boston is 68-57 and in 2nd place in the AL East, trailing the Toronto Blue Jays by 5.0 games. They are in 2nd place in the AL Wild Card Standings.

Boston opens a 2-game series with the Baltimore Orioles on Monday night, August 18th with the pregame starting at 6:10 and 1st pitch at 7:10 on WDEA  AM 1370.
