The Boston Red Sox fell to the Houston Astros on Wednesday night, August 13th, losing 4-1 in Houston.

Former Maine Black Bear Jeremy Pena led off the bottom of the 1st inning with a home run, his 13th of the season to put the Astros up 1-0.

With Boston trailing 2-1, Walker Buehler gave up his 2nd homer of the game, to Yainer Diaz hit a 2-run homer in the 6th inning.

Buehler ended up taking the loss and is 7-7 on the season. He went 6.0 innings allowing 4 runs and 4 hits, striking out 3 and walking 4.

Steven Matz and Greg Weissert held the Astros hitless in the 8th and 9th innings.

Ceddanne Rafaela drove in Trevor Story for Boston's lone run in the top of the 2nd inning.

Romy Gonzalez had a pair of hits, going 2-4 and Wilyer Abreu also had a pair of hits, going 2-3.

The play, or non-play of the game happened in the top of the 6th inning, when the Red Sox had the tying run at third base, with 2 outs. With Romy Gonzalez at the plate, and Jarren Duran at 3rd base, Red Sox manager Alex Cora stood outside the dugout demanding Hunter Brown be called for a balk. After a meeting of the 4 umpires,  no balk was called. Cora was ejected for the 5th time this season during a pitching change an inning later.

Boston is 4.5 games out of 1st place, in 2nd place in the AL East. They own the 2nd Wild Card spot.

Boston is off on Thursday, and returns home to Fenway on Friday, August 15 for a 3-game series with the Miami Marlins and a quick 2-game series with the Baltimore Orioles. Friday night's pregame begins at 6:10 with the 1st pitch at 7:10 on AM 1370 WDEA.
