The Toronto Blue Jays blasted 5 home runs and beat the Boston Red Sox 7-3 Friday night at Fenway Park. It was the Red Sox's 1st loss to the Blue Jays in 2023.

James Paxton allowed 9 hits and 4 runs in 5.0 innings. He struck out 3 and walked 2, but allowed 3 homers.

Mauricio Llovera pitched 1.1 innings allowing 3 hits and 2 runs, including another home run. He struck out 1 and walked a batter.

Joe Jacques provided some relief, pitching 1.2 hitless relief, striking out 1.

Richard Bleier pitched the 9th and allowed a solo home run.


Yu Chang was 1-3 and hit a solo home run in the 7th inning.

Masataka Yoshida was 1-4 with a double.

Luis Urias was called up from Triple A Worcester when Christian Arroyo was designated for assignment prior to the game. Urias started at 2nd base and was 1-2, walking in his 1st plate appearance for the Red Sox.

Justin Turner missed his 3rd consecutive game

Boston missed a golden opportunity to get closer to the 3rd and final wild card playoff spot, currently held by the Blue Jays. The loss dropped them 3 games out of the wild card spot.
