Blizzard Warning for Downeast Maine From Noon Thursday January 4th to 7AM Friday January 5th
Well that escalated quickly! From a winter storm watch now to a blizzard warning for Downeast Maine from Noon on Thursday, January 4th to 7AM on Friday January 5th. Snowfall is expected to begin at around 9AM on Thursday, January 4th.
According to the National Weather Service in Caribou blizzard conditions are expected and travel will be very dangerous to impossible including driving during the evening commute on Thursday into Thursday night. Power outages are possible and total snow accumulations of 9 to 12 inches are expected with locally higher amounts.
At this point it is important to start planning for the potential for power outages. Do you have fuel for a secondary heat source that is not electricity dependent? Do you know where flashlights are? Make sure that your cell phone and tablets are fully charged. If you are on well water make sure you have water in jugs or in the bathtub. Remember what it was like in the October windstorm without power? This would be potentially worse as the temperatures are MUCH colder.
