The Bar Harbor Chamber of Commerce is excited to announce Bike In Acadia Month from April 15-May 17, 2013.  Bike In Acadia Month is the perfect time to bring your family and your bicycles to Acadia National Park to enjoy the incredible vistas along the 27-mile Park Loop Road.  Acadia National Park was recently voted as the second best family destination in the U.S. by Family Fun Magazine.

Bicyclists are the clear beneficiaries of a decision by park management to keep certain motor roads closed to automobiles during this month-long period due to budget cuts forced by the federal sequester.  The ability to pedal portions of the Loop Road or Cadillac Summit Road this late in the spring without vehicular traffic is unprecedented.

Located in Bar Harbor, Maine on Mount Desert Island, Acadia National Park is one of the top ten most visited national parks in the country.  With the paved Park Loop Road and over 55 miles of packed-gravel carriage trails wending through its forests, Acadia has become world-renown as a great place for bicycle enthusiasts of every skill level.  Those who enjoy a road-biking challenge can ride to the top of Cadillac Mountain where they can take in the breath-taking 360-degree ocean views at the highest point on the Eastern seaboard.  Early-risers can be the first to see the sunrise in the U.S. from Cadillac’s 1,500 foot summit.  Weather permitting, riders of hybrid or mountain bikes can amble past ponds, meadows, streams, waterfalls and woods on the car-free carriage trails.

Nearby Bar Harbor will be open for business with unique retail shops (including bike shops), boat trips, park tours, great local restaurants featuring some of the freshest seafood in Maine, and museums celebrating our local heritage.

Lodging properties ranging from upscale 4-diamond hotels and inns to family-run motels and cottages often offer affordable early season rates.

The National Park Service has waived entry fees for Bike In Acadia Month, making a trip to Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park even more family friendly.  For more information on visiting Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park and updates on biking conditions and how to enjoy Bike In Acadia Month safely, visit www.barharborinfo.com or www.acadiainfo.com .
