Big 11 Football Championship to Be Held at Hampden Academy
The MDI Trojans have played in the last two Class B North Championships at home in Bar Harbor. Last year they hosted MCI on a cold raw November Saturday. If the MDI Trojans play in the Class B North Championship this year, they will be playing on the road in Hampden, even if they are the top seeded team.
According to the Bangor Daily News the Athletic Directors voted to play the Big 11 Football Championship at a neutral site, this year at Hampden Academy. The game will be played on Saturday afternoon, November 10th at 1PM.
The grass fields are in pretty rough shape by the middle of November, as many of the football fields double as soccer fields and there usually has been flurries or snow by then. By playing at Hampden Academy and their new artificial turf field, the Championship game will be played on good footing. Additionally the State Championship is played on artificial turf, as it alternates between Fitzpatrick Stadium and Alfond Stadium at UMaine. By playing on the turf, the North representative will have a game under their belt before the Gold Ball Game.
