On Friday, February 21st Bay Ferries announced that they anticipated The Cat to begin service between Nova Scotia and Bar Harbor on Friday, June 26, 2020.

Service will consist of 1 daily round trip (departing Yarmouth at 09:30 local time and departing Bar Harbor at 3 p.m. local time) until after Labor Day when there will be 6 crossings per week until the scheduled season end on October 13, 2020. The schedule may be found HERE

According to their website, "Throughout the fall and winter of 2019/2020, Bay Ferries has worked closely with United States Customs and Border Protection (“USCBP”) in the continuation of approval processes and in ongoing construction at the Bar Harbor ferry terminal. Bay Ferries believes that the remaining work can be completed in accordance with a project plan developed in collaboration with all contractors and USCBP. "

Remaining work on the shore side USCBP facility includes the following:

  • Completion of the exterior primary inspection canopy area and installation of officers’ booths and various inspection equipment;
  • Completion of exterior secondary inspection and outbound inspection areas;
  • Some site preparation work including completion of paving and installation of fencing and other security measures; and
  • Completion of interior fit out of the terminal building itself and installation of the equipment and fittings necessary for USCBP to operate the border facility.

Depending on construction progress at the Bar Harbor terminal, and other operational preparations, the start date could be moved to an earlier date. At this stage, tickets will only be sold for sailings commencing June 26, 2020. In the event of any unexpected delay beyond this date caused by unforeseen circumstances, customers will be advised immediately.
