August 26 – National Toilet Paper Day

August 26th is National Toilet Paper Day. It's celebrated today, to commemorate the first time it was sold on a roll, back on August 26, 1871. Prior to the middle of March and the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, you never really gave a second thought to toilet paper did you?

But then instantly people began hoarding it, and grocery stores began limiting the number of packages of toilet paper you could buy to 2 packages and ultimately 1 package per visit!

According to the website solarispaper.com in 1973 Johnny Carson caused a toilet paper shortage. He said as a joke that there was a shortage, which there wasn't, until everyone believed him and ran out to buy up the supply. It took 3 weeks for some stores to get more stock!

For all of you hoarders, and you know who you are consider this...The average person in the United States uses 100 rolls of toilet paper per year and the average household flushes about 80,000 sheets annually. So some of you may not need to purchase any toilet paper for the rest of 2020!
