Acadia National Park’s Park Loop Road Won’t Open to Vehicles on April 15
The Park Loop Road in Acadia National Park typically opens to vehicular traffic on April 15th, but not this year thanks to the continued snow. The Park Loop Road which normally closes on December 1st was closed early last year, on November 26th because of the snow
Acadia National Park rangers report that the Park Loop Road remains very icy and is snow covered. As soon as the road is ice free and safe for vehicular traffic, it will open for the season.
Theis not anticipated to open until late-May. Local contractors, King Construction Services Inc, have been working in the visitor center for months to create a better arrangement of visitor services and upgraded restrooms (although the theater where the park film has been shown is being removed). Park ranger information services will continue to be available at the and additional information services will be available at the beginning Saturday April 20.
Park entrance passes will be available at thebeginning on Wednesday May 1. Depending on when the Park Loop Road opens, the Sand Beach Entrance Station (located on the one-way section of the Park Loop Road) will be staffed and entrance passes will be sold starting on Wednesday May 1.
