Acadia National Park – What’s Open, What’s Closed with Government Shutdown [UPDATE]
Here's the latest on what is open and what is closed in Acadia National Park in light of the October 2025 government shutdown.
10/2 Update - Cadillac Mountain will reopen operations on October 3rd. Existing reservations will be honored. Reservations can be made through recreation.gov
For the latest news, please check the Friends of Acadia website, as the Acadia National Park website and Facebook page will not be updated during the shutdown.
Acadia National Park remains open. The Sand Beach Entrance Station is open, but unstaffed. Visitors may currently enter the Park without a Park pass. However, you should still purchase a Park Pass. The fees are being used to sustain Acadia's operations and keep the Park open to the public.
You can purchase passes at the Bar Harbor Chamber Visitor Information Center located at the corner of Cottage and Main Street, open 7 days a week 8 am to 4 p.m. You can also purchase passes at the automated machine outside the Acadia Gateway Center in Trenton.
The Acadia Gateway Center will be open and staffed by the Maine Tourism Association, but there will not be a Ranger there.
The Hulls Cove Visitor Center and Sieur de Monts Nature Center are closed.
The Park Loop Road will remain open.
Wildwood Stables and Jordan Pond House, as well as the gift shops at Thunder Hole and Jordan Pond, will remain open. The gift shop located at Cadillac Mountain will be closed.
Cadillac Mountain is closed to vehicles during the shutdown. Reservations made through recreation.gov will be cancelled and refunded on a day-to-day basis.
Trails and Carriage Roads, as well as campgrounds, will remain open.
Restrooms will generally remain open.
Most park employees will be or have been furloughed. Those who are working are doing so without pay at this time, having been deemed essential employees.
Please be patient with those working. They are extremely understaffed and are dealing with the uncertainty of the shutdown.
The Maine Office of Tourism advises everyone to
- Know Before You Go
- Travel and Camp on Durable Surfaces
- Dispose of Waste Properly
- Respect Maine's culture and Leave What You Find
- Minimize Campfire Impacts
