About 800 Dunkin’ Locations Nationwide To Close Permanently
I'll admit, when my eyes first came across that headline my heart jumped into my throat. As a New England girl, who lived "away" for a few years, one of the most comforting things about coming home after those years was knowing that when I had a craving for Dunkin', I didn't have to travel far to get a fix.
So the thought that some of the stores up this way may close made me sad.
Don't get me wrong, I get it.
Businesses everywhere have felt the impact of the Covid-19 Pandemic and all that its brought with it. Companies are trying to tighten their belts and take every cost-saving measure possible to try and recover some of the earning lost as people were urged to stay home to "flatten the curve".
And while they haven't released the list of which stores will be closing, Dunkin' did say the decision to close some of the stores was made so that the company as a whole could weather this storm and look toward the future.
"The Company expects that approximately 800 Dunkin' locations, including the previously announced 450 limited-menu Speedway locations, may permanently close in 2020...The 800 locations would represent approximately 8 percent of the Dunkin' total restaurant footprint and approximately 2 percent of 2019 Dunkin' systemwide sales, inclusive of the Speedway closings."
Once we know which, if any, Maine stores will be affected, we'll be sure to pass that info along.
I know how it feels to miss that convenience and familiarity. Until then I plan to take a moment to appreciate the stores we do have around.
