The Boston Red Sox finished the 2018 regular season with a 10-2 victory over the New York Yankees on Sunday, September 30th to end the season with a franchise best 108 wins.
The Red Sox will have home field advantage in the American League Division Series and throughout the postseason. The Red Sox will play either the New York Yankees or the Oakland A's beginning on Friday, October 5th. The Yankees and A's will meet in the AL Wild Card game on Wednesday, October 3rd.
The Red Sox won the season series with the New York Yankees (10-9) including a 7-3 record at Fenway Park.
The Red Sox were the only team in the majors that did not lose 4 straight games at any point this year. The only other seasons in which the Red Sox have gone the whole year without losing 4 or more games were1903 and 2013 and they won the World Series in both of those years.
Mookie Betts ended the day 1-2 and won the major league batting title with a .346 average. He scored his major league leading 129th run and is the first player ever to win a batting title while also recording 30 plus homers and 30 plus stolen bases.
JD Martinez was 2-3 hitting his 43rd homer and drove in 3 runs to finish with 130 on the season. He also finished with a batting average of .330. His 43 homers were 2nd in hte majors. The 130 RBI's are a career high and the most in the majors.
Rick Porcello started for the Red Sox and went 2 innings facing just 7 hitters. He struck out 2 and walked just 1 and didn't allow a hit. Porcello ended the season with a career high 190 strikeouts.
Eduardo Rodriguez threw a perfect 5th inning, striking out 2 of the 3 batters he raced, earning hsi 13th win, a career high.
