20th Annual Ton of Pasta – Saturday March 12
It seems impossible to believe that we have done this for 20 years, but on Saturday, March 12th, we will be conducting out 20th Annual Ton of Pasta event, from 9 a.m. to 12 noon.!
All the pasta and cash donation that we collect at the Ellsworth Hannaford will be split between the Loaves and Fishes Food Pantry, the Bar Harbor Food Pantry, Community Closet and the Emmaus Homeless Shelter.
Last year, through your incredible generosity, in Ellsworth alone, between the actual pasta and cash that you dropped off, we collected the equivalent of 4448 pounds of pasta. All together last year we collected the equivalent of 12,787 pounds or 6.39 tons!
We will have sister stations at the Brewer Hannaford, Old Town Hannaford, and the Broadway and Bangor Mall Hannafords in Bangor collecting pasta from 9 a.m. to 12 noon on March 12th.
Through the 19 years we have done this, we have been out on some of the coldest days.It is truly amazing to hear stories of listeners who had been on the receiving end of pasta from previous Ton of Pasta Food Drives and are now in a position to help their fellow Mainers. To see little children coming up and putting in pasta on the table or donating a dollar or their contents of their piggy banks warms our hearts.
One year, I hope to hear from the food pantries that they don't need the pasta. This year certainly isn't the case with the electrical bills, the cost of gasoline and the rising prices that we are all facing. In fact, this year seems to be one of the years with the greatest need.
I hope that you will be able to come out and support our efforts at the Ellsworth Hannaford and the 20th Annual Ton of Pasta on Saturday, March 12 from 9 a.m. to Noon!
