After being shutout 5-0 on Saturday, July 21st, the Boston Red Sox bats came alive on Sunday, July 22nd, and the Red Sox beat Detroit 9-1 to take 2 out of the 3 games against the Tigers.

Chris Sale was dominant on the mound for the Red Sox, throwing 6 innings and striking out 9 and allowing just 2 hits. He didn't walk a batter. Sale now 11-4 has 197 strikeouts on the season and a 2.13 ERA.

Jackie Bradley Jr. hit a 3 run homer, and it could have very well been a grand slam except for a base running error by Rafael Devers. Bradley ended up 2-4.

Xander Bogaerts had 2 doubles and Steve Pearce playing first base was 2-4 with 2 singles, scoring 2 runs. Andrew Benintendi had a triple and drove in 2 runs.

The Red Sox are the 1st team with 70 wins, with a record of 70-31. They are 5 games ahead of the 2nd place New York Yankees who take on the New York Mets Sunday night. The Yankees start a series against the Tampa Bay Rays on Monday
