No sooner has the 2016 Election Season come to an end, comes the announcement that "An Act To Allow Slot Machines Or a Casino in York County" has submitted enough valid signatures to qualify for the 2017 referendum ballot in November, 2017.On December 22, 2016 proponents submitted 64,897 signatures and of those, 52,930 signatures were certified as valid, while 11,967 were ruled invalid. Back in February 2016, petitioners submitted 35,518 valid signatures.

State law requires a minimum of 61,123 valid signatures which represents 10 percent of the total votes cast in the last gubernatorial election.
