The Boston Red Sox received 5 solid innings from Garrett Whitlock on the mound and Tyler O'Neill and Enmanuel Valdez homered on Sunday afternoon, as the Red Sox beat the Seattle Mariners 5-1.

Whitlock allowed just 3 hits and 1 run, striking out 8 and didn't walk a batter.

Greg Weissert, Joely Rodriguez and Justin Slaten combined to 1 hit the Mariners over 4 innings, striking out 2 and walking 1. Slaten earned his 1st career save.

O'Neill hit his 2nd homer of the season, a solo shot in the 2nd inning. He was 2-3 and is hitting .400

Valdez's homer in the 4th,  came with 2 outs and was a 3-run homer, and gave Boston the lead.

Travis Story and Reese McGuire each had 2 singles in the game.

Boston and Seattle are now both 2-2. The Red Sox travel to Oakland and will start a 3-game series with the A's on Monday, April 1st. Tanner Houck will start for the Red Sox and will face Oakland's Joe Boyle on the mound. The pregame starts at 8:40 p.m. with the 1st pitch at 9:40 p.m. Hear the game on AM 1370 WDEA.
