The Boston Red Sox dropped their opening game with the Houston Astros on Monday, August 21st, falling 9-4.


But James Paxton wasn't able to take advantage of the lead on the mound for the Red Sox. Paxton went 4.0 innings allowing 9 hits and 7 runs, 6 of which were earned. He struck out 4 and walked 3.

Chris Martin came on in relief and pitched the final 4 innings, allowing 7 hits and 2 runs. He struck out 4. 2 of the runs he allowed were back to back homers in the 8th inning.

Alex Verdugo leading off was 3-5 with a double.

Reese McGuire was 2-4

Boston had plenty of chances but just weren't able to get that big hit. They left 11 runners on base.

Tanner Houck is expected to be activated from the injured list prior to Tuesday night's game, and start. He was injured on June 16th when he was hit in the face on a line drive.
