Seattle's George Kirby outdueled Boston's Nick Pivetta in a pitcher's duel on Friday night in Seattle, with the Mariners winning 1-0.

Pivetta went 6.0 string innings, allowing just 3 hits and 1 run. He struck out 10 and didn't walk a batter.

Seattle's lone run came on a solo home run by J.P Crawford in the 6th inning.

Josh Winckowski came on to relieve Pivetta and pitched the final 2 innings holding the Mariners hitless, while striking out 4 and walking 2.

Kirby went 6.2 innings, allowing just 2 hits and striking out 8 while walking 2 to pick up the win.

Both teams had just 4 hits on the night.

Tyler O'Neill, Masataka Yoshida, Ceddanne Rafaela and Pablo Reyes each singled for the Red Sox.

Rafael Devers was scratched prior to the game with left shoulder soreness and is day-to-day. Bobby Dalbec started at 3rd base in his place.

Both Boston and Seattle are now 1-1 on the season. The 2 teams meet again Saturday night with the pregame starting at 8:40 and 1st pitch at 9:30 p.m.  The Red Sox will send Kutter Crawford to the mound while Seattle counters with Logan Gilbert. Hear the game on AM 1370 WDEA.
