The Boston Red Sox defeated the St. Louis Cardinals 4-3 on Monday March 21st in Spring Training baseball. Clay Buchholz pitched well, going 4.2 innings allowing just 1 earned run as he gave up 5 hits while walking 1 and striking out 2.

In the battle for the starting third base position, Travis Shaw played third on Monday and was 3-4 with 2 doubles. He also started a double play around the horn. Pablo Sandoval was the designated hitter and went 2-3 with a double and 2 RBI's. Shaw is hitting .474 and Sandoval .290 this Spring.

Jackie Bradley Jr. also had 2 hits, going 2-3 with 2 RBI's.

Hanley Ramirez flashed some leather at first base.

Knuckleballer Steven Wright, fighting for the 5th spot in the rotation will start for the Red Sox on Tuesday, March 22nd when they play the New York Mets.
