MDI Hall of Famer Bernard "Bunny" Parady was selected to the New England Basketball Hall of Fame. He will be inducted posthumously on August 8th in Worcester, Massachusetts.

According to the Bangor Daily News "Parady was the dean of Maine basketball coaches when he stepped down from his head coaching position in 1980, after 26 seasons as the coach at the former Mount Desert High in Northeast Harbor and then at Mount Desert Island High in Mount Desert.

The Trojans compiled an impressive 340-178 (66 percent) overall mark under his distinguished tenure and participated in 22 EM tournaments. Parady’s teams won four state championships and seven regional crowns while earning a spot in the EM finals 12 times.

In tournament play, Parady-coached MDI teams put together a nifty 40-18 mark, 69 percent success."

The gym at MDI High School was dedicated in his honor and named the Bernard Parady Gymnasium in February 1991.

On a personal note, it feels like I know Bernard Parady, even though I never met him. Many of his relatives still compete in the gym named after him, and when I broadcast basketball games, I constantly mention his name "from Bernard Parady Gymnasium"
