The MDI Girl's Basketball Team picked up a Heal Point-worthy win Wednesday night, beating Washington Academy 52-35 in East Machias. The win moved the Trojans from 8th to 5th place in Class B North.

MDI led 13-12 at the end of the 1st Quarter and 22-16 at the end of the 1st Half. The Trojans outscored Washington Academy 19-2 in the 3rd Quarter to take a 41-18 lead.

MDI was led by Mollie Gray with a game-high 19 points. Alexsandra Hanley had 13 points. The Trojans had 3 3-pointers in the game, with 1 each by Mollie Gray, Lily Norwood and Alexsandra Hanley. The Trojans were 11-17 from the free throw line.

Washington Academy was led by Chloe Kilton with 15 points, while Taylor MacDonald had 6 points. Grace Howard, Abigail Maker and Kilton each had a 3-pointer for the Red Raiders. Washington Academy was 12-28 from the free throw line.

Washington Academy is now 6-9. They host the Old Town Coyotes on Monday, January 29th at 6 p.m.

MDI is 8-4 on the season. They host Caribou on Friday, January 26th at 6 p.m. and then Presque Isle on Saturday, January 27th at 1 p.m. Both games will be broadcast on AM 1370 WDEA, on WDEA Internet Radio, on our free downloadable APP and on any Alexa enabled device
