MDI Girls Fall to Presque Isle 58-56

The Presque Isle Wildcats mastery of the MDI Girl's Basketball team continued Saturday, December 28th in Bar Harbor at Bernard Parady Gymnasium as the Wildcats defeated MDI 58-56.

MDI jumped out to a early 7-0 lead with 6:42 left in the 1st Quarter, and Coach Jeff Hudson called a timeout and that seemed to settle Presque Isle down, as they outscored MDI the rest of the quarter 17-12, but MDI came away with the lead 19-17 at the end of the quarter. Hannah Shaw had 11 points including a 3-pointer for MDI, while Sierra Myrick had 5, including a 3-pointer. Presque Isle was led by Taylor Williams with 6 points including a 3-pointer, while Hannah Graham had 5 points, including a 3-pointer.

In the 2nd Quarter with 5:11 left, Presque Isle went on a 8-0 run, with Graham hitting a 3, and Morgan Wilcox 5 points including a 3-pointer, and Presque Isle was on top 25-19. MDI then went on a 6 point run keyed by 2 lay ups by Kelsey Shaw from outlet passes by her sister Hannah Shaw. With 3:17 left in the 1st Half, it was 27-25 MDI. Presque Isle then went on a 6-0 run to end the 1st Half, and led 31-27.

In the 3rd Quarter, Presque Isle connected on 3 3-pointers, two by Taylor Williams and one by Hannah Graham. Kelsey Shaw scored 8 points in the 3rd Quarter, and Hannah Shaw, after being held scoreless in the 2nd Quarter added 6, and at the end of the 3rd Quarter, the score was tied 45-45.

In the 4th Quarter, Hannah Graham hit a 3-pointer, and went 4-6 from the free throw line to key Presque Isle. Sierra Tapley scored all of her 6 points in the 4th Quarter for MDI. MDI had a chance to win the game at the end, but Sarah Phelps' long shot bounced off the rim as time expired.

Presque Isle was led by Hannah Graham with a game high 25 points, including 4 3-pointers. Taylor Williams had 14 points including 3 3-pointers. MDI was led by Hannah Shaw with 22 points, while Kelsey Shaw had 12 points. Presque Isle was 9-15 from the free throw line, while MDI was 4-8.

Presque Isle remains undefeated at 8-0, and next plays at Houlton December 31st at 2:30 PM. MDI falls to 6-1 and will play host to Ellsworth on Friday, January 3rd at 7 PM in a game that will be aired on WDEA AM 1370 and WDEA Internet Radio.
