He really is my best buddy!

We are very lucky he is still alive. He survived a flipped stomach earlier this year in February

He came to live with us in August of 2017, so he's been a Popper for 6 years. When Elmer arrived for some reason he was afraid of the stairs! He wouldn't go upstairs at all. So, I slept downstairs with him on the couch in the living room. After about 3 weeks I came from an MDI exhibition football game, and I told him it was time to decide if he was going to stay a chicken or be a Great Dane! Seriously no sooner had I said that, then he ran upstairs!

As my wife Bonnie, Elmer, Wilma and Henley and I were watching TV the doorbell rang on the TV, and the stampede downstairs happened. I remember saying to Bonnie that I wasn't sure if he was going to come back upstairs, but sure enough he did, and that's when he discovered our bed! He's pretty much made himself at home since!

Elmer LOVES to go for a car ride. In fact, he pretty much goes on one everyday. If he hasn't been for a car ride by 4 p.m. he'll start nudging my arm and reminding me it's time to go! I just have to look at him and ask "Do you want to?" and he knows! And Lord forbid if I don't go promptly because he'll run downstairs and back up and start herding me towards the door!

Working from home since the pandemic, Elmer is with me pretty much all day! If I leave no matter for however long, he'll greet me at the door and will jump up and put his paws on my shoulders. He'll then look eye to eye with me as if to say "Where have you been, and why didn't I go with you?"

As much as a happy day today is, it's also a sad day, as we miss Wilma, his sister. Wilma was my son Collin's dog, and our first experience with a Great Dane! She was special! When Collin went on the Appalachian Trail I wasn't worried because Wilma went with him. I knew with her by his side, nothing would harm him!
