Pitching in softball is often the key to winning, and the Ellsworth JV Softball team received a great pitching performance from Mackenzie Chipman on Monday afternoon as Class B Ellsworth JV Softball Team defeated Class A Bangor 2-1.

Chipman had 11 strikeouts in the game, and also scored the first run when she walked in the 1st inning. Katie Hammer moved her to 2nd base and and then Ellie Clark and Georgia Connell walked to load the bases. Chipman then scampered home on a passed ball.

Ellsworth who had been working on baserunning in the gym last week, was aggressive on the basepaths, and used that to their advantage in the 5th inning. Hammer walked and Richards singled. The Bangor fielder overthrew 1st base and Hammer scored.

Outfielders Larissa Richards and Maria Wagenknecht made two spectacular catches.

In the top of the 5th inning, Bangor was threatening with the bases loaded with 1 out. 3rd baseman Georgia Connell speared a line drive in foul territory for the 2nd out of the inning and then Clark, playing 1st base fielded a grounder and tagged the base to end the inning.

The Ellsworth JV squad will begin their regular season April 25th at Hermon
