Ellsworth Girls Open Season with 57-35 Win Over Orono [STATS]
The Ellsworth Girls Basketball Team is 1-0 after a 57-35 victory over the Orono Red Riots on the opening night of the 2017-18 Basketball Season in Orono.
Ellsworth raced out to a 20-6 lead at the end of the 1st Quarter and never looked back. The Eagles received scoring from 7 girls in the 1st Quarter. Trinity Montigny had 5 points including a 3-pointer. Hannah Sargent, Kaitlin McCullough and Sierra Andrews each had a 3-pointer and Kayla Duhamine, Kylie Robidoux, and Sara Shea each had 2 points.
Ellsworth increased their lead in the 2nd Quarter outscoring Orono 15-7 to take a 35-13 lead into the locker room at the end of the 1st Half. Katelynn Bagley and Montigny each had 4 points. Sargent hit another 3-pointer and Duhaime and Shea added a basket apiece.
It was 49-25 at the end of the 3rd Quarter. For Ellsworth Bagley had 5 points in the Quarter, Montigny drained another 3-pointer and Sargent, Duhaime and Robidoux each chipped in with 2 points.
In the 4th Quarter Samantha Carter hit a 3-pointer for Ellsworth, Autumn Paul had 3 points and Bagley scored a bucket.
These were the first career varsity points for Freshman Samantha Carter, Autumn Paul, Sierra Andrews, Kayla Duhaime, Kylie Robidoux and Sara Shea!
Ellsworth was led by Trinity Montigny with 12 points and Katelynn Bagley with 11 points, The Eagles were 4-8 from the free throw line. Montigny, and Sargent each had 2 3-pointers while Andrews, Carter and McCoullough each had 1 3-pointer.
Orono was led by Lauren Melanson with 9 points while Izzy Baker had 8 points and Isabelle Henderson had 7 points. Orono was 11-21 from the free throw line. Baker had 2 3-pointers for the Red Riots.
Ellsworth 1-0 will play host to Old Town Wednesday, December 13th at 7PM in a game that will be broadcast on AM 1370 WDEA, on WDEA Internet Radio. The game may also be heard on our free downloadable APP and on any Alexa enabled device with the pregame starting at 6:40 PM
