Chris Sale Returns and Retires 1st 14 Batters He Faces as Red Sox Beat Tigers 5-2

Friday night, August 11th saw the triumphant return of Chris Sale after missing 59 games. Sale retired the 1st 14 batters he faced and the Red Sox beat the Detroit Tigers 5-2. The Red Sox continued to wear their Yellow City Connect Uniforms and are now 10-1 in 2023 when wearing yellow!

Boston has now won 4 of their last 5 games after losing 4 games in a row. They are 3 games out of the 3rd and final wild card spot, with 46 games left to play.

Sale finished the night pitching 4.2 innings, allowing a home run. He struck out 7. He threw 58 pitches, 42 of them for strikes.

Kyle Barraclough made his Red Sox debut and pitched 1.1 innings, allowing just a hit, striking out 3.

Chris Murphy was lights out, pitching the final 3 innings, earning his 1st save. He struck out 4, walked 2 and didn't allow a hit.

Tristan Casas hit a 3-run homer in the 4th inning. It was his 19th of the season. He has 10 homers since the All-Star Game, which is the most in the American League.
