Watras, Lord and Curtis Nominated for High School Player of the Week
Downeast Maine is certainly well represented this week in our sister station's, 92.9 The Ticket's High School Player of the Week as MDI's Julia Watras, and Ellsworth's Logan Lord and Jackson Curtis were nominated.
They are 3 of the 7 high school athlete's nominated.
Julia Watras of MDI scored 17 points in Friday night's 51-31 triumph over the Oceanside Mariners in Rockland. Watras scored a game-high 21 points last Wednesday, when MDI picked up a 52-36 road win against Foxcroft Academy. MDI is off to a 3-0 start this season.
Logan Lord of Ellsworth won his 100th career wrestling match on Thursday in Dover Foxcroft. Lord, who normally wrestles in the 145-pound weight class, has a career record of 100-15. Picking up 100 wins as a wrestler, to put it into perspective, is the equivalent of a basketball player scoring 1,000 points during his or her high school career.
Jackson Curtis of Ellsworth posted 21 points in the Eagles' 65-36 win against GSA at Katsiaficas Gymnasium on Friday. Curtis chipped in 20 points on Tuesday night, when Ellsworth picked up a 61-49 win against Old Town. The Eagles have won two straight since suffering a 65-55 season-opening loss against Orono.
