Trojans Outlast Mariners 62-59 [RECAP/STATS/PHOTOS]

It was a tale of quarters as the MDI Trojans Girls Basketball Team outlasted the Oceanside Mariners in Bar Harbor on Saturday afternoon December 16th 62-59. Oceanside outscored MDI 19-6 in the 1st Quarter, MDI outscored Oceanside 25-9 in the 2nd Quarter, Oceanside outscored MDI 19-9 in the 3rd Quarter before MDI outscored Oceanside 22-12 in the final quarter for the victory.

In the 1st Quarter MDI had numerous turnovers as Oceanside jumped out to a 19-6 lead. Gabby Simmons had 6 points with a 3-pointer, Raechel Joyce had 5 points with a 3-pointer, Hannah Moholland had 4 points and Kassidy Robinson and Sara Dorr each had 2 points for the Mariners. For MDI Maddy Candage had 4 points and Emily Banks had 2 points.

In the 2nd Quarter MDI outscored Oceanside 25-9 to take a 31-28 lead at the Half. For MDI Maddy Good had 7 points with 2 3-pointers. Emily Banks and Maddy Candage had 6 points each, Hannah Chamberlain had a 3-pointer, Rachelle Swanson had 2 pints and Julia Watras 1 point for MDI. For Oceanside Gabby Simmons had 4 points, Chloe Jones had 3 points, and Joyce 2 points.

In the 3rd Quarter Oceanside outscored MDI 19-9 to take a 47-40 lead. Joyce had 6 points with 2 3-pointers, Simmons had 5 points with a 3-pointer, Moholland and Hope Butler each had 4 points for the Mariners. For MDI Candage had 3 points, Watras, Banks and Good each had 2 points.

In the 4th Quarter MDI hit 4 3-pointers. Candage had 7 points including a 3-pointer and 2 free throws with less than 1 minute left to go in the game to give MDI a 3 point lead. Watras and Swanson each had 5 points with a 3-pointer, Good had a 3-pointer and Banks had 2 points before fouling out. For Oceanside Butler had 5 points with a 3-pointer, Simmons had 4 points, Moholland had 2 points and Robinson 1 point.

MDI was led by Maddy Candage with 20 points while Emily Banks and Maddy Good each had 12 points. The Trojans were 7-12 from the free throw line.

Oceanside was led by Gabby Simmons with 19 points while Raechel Joyce had 13 points and Hannah Moholland had 10 points. The Mariners were 15-23 from the free throw line.

MDI is now 3-0 and will play host to Washington Academy on Monday, December 18th with the tipoff at 7PM and pregame starting at 6:45PM on AM 1370 WDEA, WDEA Internet Radio, on our free downloadable APP and on any Alexa enabled device

Oceanside is now 1-2 and will play at Camden Hills on Wednesday, December 20th at 7PM.
