Trojans Escape to Win 13th In a Row [PHOTOS]
The Devils came down to Bar Harbor, they were looking for a win to steal, and the Central Red Devils nearly knocked MDI from the ranks of the unbeaten before the Trojans hung on to beat Central 44-39 on Friday, January 20th.
Central exploded out to a 10-3 lead at the end of the 1st Quarter. Micah Ward had 2 3-pointers and Dylan Gray and Ethan Mailman had 2 points each for Central. MDI was stone cold shooting and could only manage 3 points, 2 from Russell Kropff and 1 from Graham Good.
In the 2nd Quarter, MDI outscored Central 9-4 to cut the lead to 1, 14-12. MDI was able to get the ball into Graham Good in the paint and he scored 7 points while Russell Kropff chipped in 2 points. For Central Caleb Shaw and Micah Ward had 2 points each.
In the 3rd Quarter, MDI outscored Central 19-8 to take a 31-22 lead. Riley Swanson finally got untracked and drained 2 3-pointers for 6 points. Graham Good had 6 more points. Andrew Phelps had a 3-pointer and Drew Rich and Devin Parlatore each had 2 points. For Central, Andrew Speed had 2 3-pointers including 1 at the buzzer. Dylan Gray added 2 points for the Red Devils.
In the 4th Quarter, Central came charging back, sinking 11-14 from the free throw line. Shaw had 11 points, going 5-6 from the free throw line. Mailman was 4-6 from the free throw line and Gray was 2-2. MDI was clutch from the free throw line with Andrew Phelps knocking in 2, on a 1 and 1, with 1:07 left and then 1-2 with 21.2 seconds remaining. Swanson had 4 points including a 3-pointer, Drew Rich had 4 points, going 2-2 from the free throw line and Derek Collin was 2-2 from the charity stripe.
MDI was led by Graham Good with a game high 14 points while Riley Swanson had 10 points. MDI was 10-15 from the free throw line.
Central was led by Caleb Shaw with 13 points while Micah Ward had 8 points. Central was 11-18 from the free throw line.
MDI is now a perfect 13-0 and the Trojans are off until next Friday, January 27 when they play at Presque Isle at 7:30 in a game that will be broadcast on AM 1370 WDEA and WDEA Internet Radio.
Central is now 9-3 and will play host to Old Town on Tuesday, January 24th at 7 PM.
