Trojans Advance to the Semifinals for the 1st Time in 5 Years Beat MCI 42-27 [PHOTOS]
The 2018-19 MDI Girls Basketball Team did something that no other Trojan team had done in 5 years, they advanced to the semifinals, erasing 4 years of frustration, beating the MCI Huskies 42-27 on Saturday, February 16th.
The Trojans jumped out to 14-10 lead at the end of the 1st Quarter. Julia Watras has 7 points, Maddy Candage 4 points and Hannah Chamberlain drained a 3-pointer. For the Huskies Sydney Farrat had 7 points, Leah Bussell 2 points and Christa Carr was 1-2 from the free throw line. MDI was 6-13 from the field shooting, while MCI was 4-8.
In the 2nd Quarter MCI cut the lead to 1 point, and MDI was up 21-20 at the end of the 1st Hlf. MDI was 9-24 shooting in the 1st Half, while the Huskies were 8-14. In the 2nd Quarter Farrar had 2 3's for 6 points and Sara Linkletter and Leah Bussell each had 2 points. For the Trojans Chamberlain had 5 points with a 3-pointer and Rachelle Swanson had 2 points.
In the 3rd Quarter MDI started on a 9-0 run, and outscored MCI 12-2 to take a 33-22 lead. Alexis Clarito hit a 3-pointer as time expired on an off-balanced shot for the Trojans. Chamberlain had 4 points with her 3rd 3-pointer of the night. Maddy Candage had 4 points and Julia Watras was 1-2 from the free throw line. Farrar scored MCI's lone points.
In the 4th Quarter Rachelle Swanson had 4 points, Julia Watras 3 points and Alexis Clarito 2 points for MDI. For the Huskies Danielle Dow and Sydney Farra each had 2 points while Sara Linkletter was 1-2 from the free throw line.
MDI was led by Hannah Chamberlain with 12 points and Julia Watras with 11 points. The Trojans were 8-14 from the free throw line.
MCI was led by Sydney Farrar with a game high 17 points. The Huskies were 3-5 from the free throw line
MDI now 17-2 on the season will play the defending Class B State Champions, Winslow Black Raiders in the semifinals on Wednesday night, February 20th at 8:35 PM. Winslow beat Old Town 39-26 Saturday afternoon in the Quarterfinals. Winslow knocked out MDI in the 1st round last year. The MDI-Winslow game will be broadcast on AM 1370 WDEA, on WDEA Internet Radio, on our free downloadable APP and on any Alexa enabled device
MCI ends the season with a 10-10 record.
