The Red Sox lost their opening game of the 3-game series with Tampa Bay Monday night, losing 16-1 as Tanner Houck was shelled. Boston is now 8-10 while Tampa Bay is 8-8.

Houck lasted just 2.2 innings allowing 10 hits and 12 runs. He struck out 1 and walked 2 as his ERA ballooned to 9.16. He's now 0-2 on the season.

Michael Fulmer recalled when Richard Fitts when on the 15 day Injured List allowed 4 hits and 3 runs in 2.2 innings. He struck out 2 and walked 2.

Greg Weissert pitched the 6th inning allowing 1 hit and striking out 2 while Josh Winckowski struck out the side in the 7th inning. Brennan Bernardino allowed 1 run on 1 hit in the 8th inning.

Tampa Bay hit 4 home runs in the game with Kameron Misner blasting 2 of them He ended the game 3-4 with 3 runs batted in.

Tampa Bay had 16 hits while Boston had 6 hits.

The lone offensive highlight for the Red Sox was Kristian Campbell's 3rd homer of the season in the 3rd inning. He ended up 2-3 and is batting .328. Campbell has now hit successfully in his 1st 17 games as a Red Sox player. Campbell has the longest active on-base streak in the American League. He was tied with Willi Castro of Minnesota, but he went 0-4 last night.

The Red Sox and Rays will play game 2 of the 3-game series on Tuesday night. The Red Sox are scheduled to send Walker Buehler (1-1, 5.74 ERA) to the mound while Tampa Bay will counter with Ryan Pepiot (1-1 3.38 ERA). The pregame starts at 6:05 p.m. with the 1st pitch at 7:05 p.m. on AM 1370 WDEA.
