Sumner’s Teddy Dickson-Smith Finishes 8th in JV Division of US Geography Competition and 1st in Written Exam
How did you spend your April vacation? For Sumner Memorial High School's Teddy Dickson-Smith, he spent it in Arlington Virginia competing in the 2022 Varsity & Junior Varsity US National Championships of the US Geography Championships, which were held April 22 - 24th. Dickson-Smith, a 10th grader, placed 8th overall in the JV (9th&10th grade) division of the United States Geography Competition, and 1st place in the written part of the exam!
Students from all over the continental United States competed, plus Hawaii and Puerto Rico! Teddy has now qualified to compete in the International Geography Championships this summer!
The written exam had questions regarding
- Geomorphology
- Geography and current events
- Historical geography
- Cultural geography
- Economic geography
- Urban geography
- Biogeography
- Climate geography
There was also a Cartographic Skills Exam
The 18th International Geography Olympiad will be held online and hosted by France from 12th to 18th July, 2022 under the auspices of the International Geographical Union Olympiad Task Force.
