Sumner Memorial HS Class of 2016 Honors Parts
Congratulations to the Sumner Memorial High School Class of 2016 who will be graduating on Thursday June 9th. Here are the 2016 Honors Parts
Casco Haley-Valedictorian
Casco is the daughter of Kim Haley of Sullivan and Kurt Haley of Rangeley. She has participated in soccer, basketball and outdoor track. She is a member of National Honor Society and serves as it's Vice President. She has been very involved in the Student Voice group and can be found helping out at most school events. Casco has challenged herself academically with Advanced placement courses as well as several college level courses. She has earned acceptances into several of the best colleges in the country. She has chosen to continue her studies at Syracuse University with a major in Finance and Marketing.
Emily Martin-Salutatorian
Emily is the daughter of Celine Martin of Steuben and Keith Martin of Gouldsboro. Emily has participated in volleyball, cheerleading, indoor and outdoor track. She is a member of Natiional Honor Society and serves as its president. She received the Susan B. Anthony and Frederick Douglas Award recognizing her commitment to understanding and addressing social issues. She will be attending the University of Vermont majoring in the medical field.
Julianne Wheeler - Honor Essayist
Julianne is the daughter of David and MaryAnn Wheeler of Ellsworth. Julianne has participated in soccer and basketball. She was one of the first female athletes at Sumner to have used a flip throw in a varsity soccer game. She earned over 30 hours of community service working with The Leaping Literacy at the Ella Lewis School. Julianne is a serious student who has always had the goal of attending college out of state. She will be attending the University of Massachusetts Boston, majoring in liberal studies.
Mary Louise Ross - Second Honor Essayist
Mary Louise is the daughter of Mark Ross of Sullivan and Laurie Ross of Sorrento. Mary Lou is a member of the National Honor Society. It is easy to say that she has lived in a gym her entire young life. She has been a gymnast since the age of five and serves as a coach and role model to the younger athletes in her gym. She is a young lady who has always achieved highly in the sciences. She will be attending Worcester Polytechnic Institute with a major in Bio-Engineering.
