Sumner High School Class of 2024 Honors Parts
Sumner Memorial High School Principal Jackson Green has announced the honor parts for the Class of 2024. Sumner's graduation will be held on Thursday, June 6th at 7:00 p.m. on the Charles M. Sumner Learning Campus.
Valedictorian - This year’s valedictorian with summa cum laude distinction is Asa Cyrus Berry, son of Mark and Julia Berry of Gouldsboro. Salutatorian with summa cum laude distinction is Ada Rose Fisher, daughter of Tim & Liza Fisher of Gouldsboro.
At Sumner, Asa competed on the cross country, indoor track, outdoor track, and math teams. He was named to the 2023 All-Academic team for Cross Country and second team on the All Conference Cross Country team. He was also PVC first team on the 2024 Sumner 4x800m relay team for indoor track. He has just returned from an outdoor leadership program, The Rockies to Patagonia with the Alzar School in Idaho. With nearly perfect scores, the College Board has recognized Asa as a National Merit Finalist. He will be attending Dartmouth College pursuing a degree in environmental engineering.
Salutatorian - Ada Fisher has participated in cross country, indoor and outdoor track. Ada was named to the 2023 All Academic team for Cross-Country and an Honorable Mention on the All Conference Cross Country team. She was also the 2024 PVC first team recipient for 55m hurdles on the indoor track team. She is a member of the school’s Civil Rights Team and participated in a semester-long study abroad program in Argentina in her junior year. Ada will be attending Smith College in the fall as she pursues a degree in biology, on the pre-med track.
First Honor Essayist - The first honor essayist with summa cum laude distinction is Jessika Elizabeth Bridges, daughter of Elizabeth Grovogel and Richard Bridges of Gouldsboro. She is a member of the National Honor Society and Sumner’s Maine Principals’ Award recipient. Jessika has been actively involved in athletics with four-year participation in cheerleading and softball. She has attended Hancock County Technical Center’s Health Occupation program for two years. She has chosen to continue her education at the University of Maine Fort Kent pursuing a degree in nursing.
Second Honor Essayist - The second honor essayist with magna cum laude distinction is Marcella Doreen Rivers daughter of Kelley Shurn of Sullivan. Marcella has attended Hancock County Technical Center’s Early Childhood Education program for two years. She has earned many hours of community service with her volunteer work at the Mt. View School’s summer school program. She will attend the University of Maine Farmington with a major in elementary education.
