The Safe Harbor Alano Club (SHAC) is a non-profit, 501(c)3 organization whose mission is to be a drug and alcohol free community center that hosts a variety of recovery-centric meetings and gatherings as well as offering free supper and music events to local residents and their families. They also have recreational space that offers TVs, ping pong, pool and card tables, and other game opportunities to families, residents and other community based groups.
For those in recovery, there currently is no place on MDI that provides a welcoming environment that nurtures a person’s long term sobriety with supportive resources, camaraderie and activities. MDI’s recovery community has longed for a “clubhouse” of its own. SHAC’s identity is be such a place for anyone seeking recovery for themselves, family members or friends while simultaneously being a community center that provides a friendly, neighborly space for everyone to relax and be with others.
