Sale regained the major league stirkeout lead, now with 219, despite missing 2 games. His ERA of 1.93 is the American League best. In Sunday's game he didn't allow a walk and only gave up 1 hit.

Craig Kimbrel pitched a scoreless 9th striking out the side, walking 1 and allowing a hit for his 35th save of the season.

Steve Pearce hit his 10th homer of the season. Jackie Bradley Jr. was 2-4. JD Martinez was 2-4 with a double. Mookie Betts hit his 3th double of the season.

The New York Yankees beat Texas 7-2 Sunday, so the Red Sox remain 9.5 games ahead of the Yankees. The Yankees play a makeup game with the Mets on Monday, before starting a 3 game series with Tampa Bay.
