Getting to and from Brewer and  Ellsworth and Downeast Maine will take a little longer beginning on Monday, September 28th as the Maine Department of Transportation will begin working on Route 1A in Brewer and Holden during the day.

The Maine DOT will be working from 8:30 to 3:30 for a highway preservation paving project with drainage and safety improvements. This daytime work is in addition to the night work that started on August 2nd.

The project location begins 0.24 of a mile northwest of the Holden town line and extends southeast 2.79 miles. Project work during the day will continue until October 2nd and night work will end on October 23rd.

The project work includes the center turn lane and left and right travel lane surface paving starting at the railroad overpass located adjacent to I-395 & the Route 9 Connector and extending easterly approximately 1.7 miles to the east of Copeland Hill Road. Crews will be paving in one of the three lanes at a time while utilizing the other two lanes to maintain two-way traffic at all times.

Drivers should expect to encounter traffic delays. Drivers should seek alternate routes. Drivers that must travel this route need to pay attention when passing through the work zone.

The contractor for this project is Eurovia Atlantic Coast/Northeast Construction of Bangor and the project is expected to cost $2,673,857.80.
